Tom Underwood is a qualified therapist and is a registered member of the BACP. Being an Integrative therapist allows him to tailor his practice to an individual’s needs drawing from humanistic approaches to therapy, whilst also encouraging a collaborative therapeutic relationship between himself and his clients. Tom has gained a wide range of experience in both short and long-term which has benefitted him to see differing styles of therapeutic work. Alongside his current role within The Awareness Centre, Tom runs his own private practice. He has a keen appreciation of diversity and interest in LGBTQ+ issues.

After gaining a degree in Psychology early on in his career, Tom then moved towards the corporate sector and also lived abroad for years in various countries. After seeing more of the world and gaining a broader set of life experiences, Tom decided to return to Psychology, and more specifically to Counselling and Psychotherapy, with the goal of training in a profession that combined his affinity for people with an opportunity to give back to others.

Throughout his time at The Awareness Centre, Tom has worked within our Low-Cost service whilst on training, as well as in our NHS department as an Administrator before moving into the role of Counselling Services Coordinator. Tom has a genuine desire to support therapists’ professional development and currently does so working as a Clinical Team Leader within our NHS Wandsworth borough and privately at our Clapham centre. With a wealth of experience gained during his time at The Awareness Centre, this enables him to support both our therapists and clients within our services.
