Victoria Barker puts the client at the centre of her work. She aims to create a safe, confidential , non-judgemental space for the client to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their past and present issues. She helps the client explore their own thoughts, feelings and behaviour. She may also help the client to explore their past to see if and how it impacts on the present. In this way Victoria assists the client to resolve their own troubles or may help them to manage or change the way they relate to their own troubles in a more positive or constructive way. Ultimately, she looks to help the client overcome their difficulties and achieve a better sense of wellbeing and balance in their life.
Before training as a counsellor, Victoria worked as a solicitor and adjudicator. She has a good understanding of the stresses and strains of modern day working life and is aware of the value of striking a positive work life balance. She recognises the need for individuals to nurture a good sense of wellbeing, both in terms of mental and physical health. Having benefitted from the healing and transformational power of counselling herself, Victoria is passionate about helping others overcome the difficulties that life can throw their way and to live life to its full potential.
Victoria is completing a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Her training is integrative, allowing her to draw on person-centred and psychodynamic, mainstream counselling models and to customise her approach to the individual client’s needs and problems. Victoria is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. She works on an open- ended basis, within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Tooting.
Victoria is able to offer therapy in English and French.
