Jamie Kerr
Jamie believes that human struggles do not need to be avoided by “getting on with it”, using addictions or distractions, or getting stuck – there is a well-trodden and generative path through these times. With this in mind, Jamie has a particular focus in a person centred approach, where by the client will receive his unconditional positive regard. Jamie provides a safe and confidential space for clients to discuss their feelings and emotions and has an open mind as to how the therapist and client can work together. Finding ways of understanding how certain thought patterns and behaviours can arise. And how we can work to gain an understanding of how to move forward and reframe such patterns and behaviours in a solution focused manner. Working integratively Jamie works within a range of therapeutic modalities, from CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Profiling) and Transactional Analysis which help clients manage their feelings and emotions in a healthier way and to help anxious responses. There will be on occasion though that sometimes no “technique” is needed, a compassionate and respectful conversation is all that’s needed to give the client space to explore things.
Jamie has worked within the London Hospitality scene for most of his adult life, resulting in him becoming a Senior Vice President of some of the UK’s largest hospitality operators. Throughout his professional life, Jamie is well known as a mentor & coach to many individuals working across different backgrounds and ethnicities within this sector. Most importantly he has garnered a strong understanding of what makes individuals tick and helping people overcome their personal obstacles and be the best version of themselves. Jamie has faced and overcome his own issues within both alcohol addiction and eating disorders, resulting in him now having a particular interest in helping others overcome their addictions and other impulses around these particular behaviours. Other areas Jamie covers are anxiety, depression, motivation, burnout, work related stress & conflict management, neurodiversity and ADHD.
Jamie Kerr is an integrative student counsellor and is registered with the UKCP. He works in The Awareness Centre’s NHS Counselling service within Lambeth. Jamie is currently working towards an advanced diploma in integrative counselling.
