We met with Nick for a few sessions during a very testing time in our 15-year marriage. Nick provided a safe space for us to talk and he enabled each of our voices to be heard. Nick was calm, patient and thoughtful, allowing us time to process what was going on which resulted in us finding a way forward together.
Counselling & Therapy in Tooting
The Awareness Centre is one of the leading providers of talking therapy in South London. We were established in 2005, and opened our centre for counselling and therapy in Tooting in 2019. Our therapists work with a wide range of presenting issues, and we can offer a professional and confidential counselling service in more than 30 languages.
This therapy for me has been instrumental in my emotional healing process, specifically having a therapist like Vas who is empathetic but also can challenge me has helped me grow in many areas of my life and become aware of my behaviours which no longer serve their purpose, whilst also learning to accept and manage the parts of me that may never change.
These sessions have dramatically changed my outlook and questioned my perspectives on life. They have guided me to reconnect to a sense of purpose, to unpack all of the complexities I could not make sense of. Minoo has so eloquently supported me on a journey to unlock and give myself permission to process my grief. To look into those darker corners with strength and pride. To take on new opportunities by believing in myself again. I am so grateful that I was given this service, to support my mental health at such a rocky and devastating time. Thank you Minoo for all of your time, energy and awareness, I will forever hold onto the newfound reflections these sessions have provided for my current and future self.
The counselling service provided has been simply unexpected at The Awareness Centre, as previously I was losing hope the idea of counselling. This is as I had tried counselling at various other establishments and there was no long lasting effects. My counsellor?I am lost for words as she is empathetic, compassionate, dedicated and regularly goes one step and beyond to ensure I get the best service. Money well spent.
I worked with Anna over the course of 8 counselling sessions and I have found these sessions extremely helpful. Anna set some clear objectives and an initial timeline for our work together. She was professional but also friendly and approachable so I found myself at ease very quickly and was able to share more and more over our sessions together.
I felt that Anna genuinely cared about my story and while she was a wonderful listening ear, she also gave me ideas and avenues to explore in order to move forward, by interpreting how my past experiences may have shaped the person I am now and the challenges I sometimes struggle with. Her warmth and her absolute belief that anyone can change and have a healthier relationship with themselves was a great comfort to me.
After 8 sessions, I find myself with some great tools to move forward and achieve the change I am seeking. Anna has taught me that the most important thing of all is being kind and patient to myself and I am very glad I worked with her. I would be completely happy to recommend Anna to anyone who is looking for a good counsellor.
Finally – an affordable, consistent counselling service that doesn’t have to cut off treatment to a deadline when you are finally getting somewhere. My counsellor has helped me to transform the way I see things, and given me the tools to go it alone. I haven’t had to worry about huge debts either. I couldn’t recommend this service enough.
Had a good experience with The Awareness Centre when my son did some counselling with Magda Florek in preparation for secondary school. Her approach through art worked really well with our son, who is on the quiet side, and she had some practical advice and reassuring commentary at the end of our round of sessions.
I have previously worked with a few different counsellors at various stages in my life and Emma is the counsellor that I have worked with most consistently. I feel comfortable and supported and we have discussed realistic options for what the sessions will achieve. Emma is compassionate and insightful. Moreover, I appreciate the different approaches she incorporates into our sessions, whether it be Mindfulness-based techniques or ACT. My experience in the sessions with Emma has been evolving based on the use of different approaches and she helps me feel confident in challenging my perspectives and opening out how I think about some things in my life.
I thought Natalia was an excellent therapist, I have had therapy in the past and have not found it as helpful before. With Natalia I felt like she created a very safe space, she made me feel relaxed and comfortable enough to open up and express myself. I feel like she made the effort to make a connection with me as a client. Thank you for your help.
I was sceptical on how effective therapy would be but seeing as my life was a total mess with me having no joy, no hope and no clue on how to deal with it I thought I may as well give it a go. I’m extremely happy I did. On 28th of September, which was the day before my first session, I was as low as could have possibly got – I didn’t want to socialise, I didn’t want to go to work, I didn’t want have any contact with anyone to the point where I had hardly been outside the house for the best part of a year! With Minoo’s help however, my life has changed dramatically. She managed to get me to ask questions of myself – questions I would never have even thought about without her assistance – and I now feel empowered enough to make drastic changes. Now I’m not going to say that my life is now perfect and there is quite a way to go but for the first time in a long time (and by long I mean at least 6 years) I feel like I have the ability and the strength to change things around. Like I said at the beginning, I was sceptical on how effective Therapy would be but after the sessions I’ve had with Minoo for the last 3 months I would recommend it (and have been) to anyone who is struggling with there mental health as she has really helped my to turn things around!
Thank you Minoo – you really have helped me more that I can put into words!I’ve been seeing Philippa regularly for the last 6 months and it has been a total game-changer for me. She’s helped me to explore my patterns of thinking and find ways to recognise and reframe them and has also helped me to understand where they come from so that I can address the root cause. She also manages to be really objective and firm whilst being friendly and engaging which is an amazing combination. I feel stronger and more positive now than I have in a long time.
Had to switch therapist as she was leaving and was recommended to speak with Donna. I was a bit apprehensive as it’s hard to swap when you’ve opened up to someone. To my surprise I felt comfortable from the first session and walked out feeling very calm about the swap. Since then it’s been like that. Donna is very calm, asks questions, challenges thoughts without judgment and makes me feel heard. She also encourages small changes in behaviour, thoughts to try a think about during the week without making it feel like homework. That’s all I can ask for really. Very grateful.
I started talking to Matthew during a very stressful period of my life and found our conversations really positive and helpful in a variety of ways – without them, I would have found things a lot more difficult. He was really easy to talk to in an honest way without any worry of judgement. Since finishing our meetings I still see the positive impact through an improvement in managing my stress and recalling advice when it comes to judging myself and emotional responses in a less harsh, and more understanding way. I would reccommend Matthew and the Awareness Centre as a whole to anyone who was seeking therapy.
I’m currently new in counselling and so far I’m enjoying it. My therapist made me feel human and that having emotions are ok. He listen to my concerns and address it. He’s really a big help especially on the type of work I do. Counselling made me realise a lot of things and recognise that I do need help. Thanks Pavol!
My experience with Shirley at The Awareness Centre was a very positive one. Shirley was an amazing therapist, she helped me confront lots of things within myself at a slow and manageable pace. Every therapy session felt as though it was completely in my control as Shirley seemed to follow a client lead approach. I was very impressed with the therapy I received and it has definitely helped me an awful lot. I would recommend Shirley as a therapist to everyone.
I started therapy really down and broken I was overly anxious about everything big and small, through the course of our time together Valeria has really helped me understand my feelings and emotions better, she’s has recommend literature and meditation practices that have helped see the bigger picture when I start to get down or depressed. I am an overall better person now my relationships with those closer to me has improved because I am not so self involved (or at least I try not to be) and my relationship with myself has also improved as I try to be kinder to myself. What a life changing experience, couldn’t have done it without Valeria.
I am so grateful to have found The Awareness Centre, it has helped through some tough times and the support of my counsellor has allowed me to regain confidence in myself and life. I would recommend if anyone feels they need to talk through anything, here is definitely the place to do so. Thank you.
My partner and I didn’t know what to expect from couples therapy. I think we thought you only go if you’re about to break up, but the sessions made us closer and more understanding of each other. I would recommend this centre to anyone – especially couples who want a safe space to work through any disagreements.
Nick is a kind, thoughtful, sympathetic, empathetic, humane, experienced and engaged therapist. After we’d talked for some months, he had a crucial insight into my issues which no one had had, and then suggested a course of action which changed my life.
I’m forever indebted to Nick for his help and support, and to The Awareness Centre for bringing us together and giving us a perfect place to talk. After the sudden death of a close friend, which had followed on from the sudden death of another good friend, I began to experience anxiety attacks. They were serious enough that I attended hospital by ambulance. I came to therapy with Donna in order to cope with bereavement. However, through her probing questions, I was able to understand where I was in terms of my life and also the loss I had felt of my inner optimism and vibrancy.
From the first session, I began to feel deep relief within myself and since then I can think of my friends and family without having an attack. I also feel liberated from the closed in feeling that I had carried with me for a while and I have regained much of my confidence both personally and professionally. I think that Donna was able to understand what I needed straight away and I am grateful for the space to be able to speak freely about my emotions without feeling judged.
I was so impressed how quickly everything was put into place, that was very, very helpful. It is my first experience of talking therapies and its been very helpful and I would look towards continuing it and using it again at times when I feel very over-whelmed. Riana has been really good listener and able to remember lots of different things and offer different strategies to manage things better on my own. Many thanks to the service.
When I first came to Nathalie nine months ago I was extremely anxious with obsessive compulsive thoughts around protecting my child. Building a trusting relationship with Nathalie helped me to uncover some deep rooted issues which triggered my worries relating to my son. Nathalie taught me ways to deal with my anxiety using different tools. Now I feel calmer. I can relax and enjoy spending time with my son without a constant feeling of fear and worry. Thank you Nathalie for your help.
Jennifer has been a therapist to my son since he was in his early teens and has provided him and our family with valuable support throughout some difficult times for him. She built a great rapport with him straight away and it was very helpful for him to have someone he could trust and discuss topics with that he would not necessarily want to raise with his parents.
My son found school challenging and Jennifer helped him to navigate various difficult situations and ultimately to do well in his A Levels and make the move to university. Now, as an older teenager, he is able to recognise when he is starting to feel low and has been fortunate enough that Jennifer has been able to find availability to hold Zoom sessions with him whilst he is some distance away.
I would highly recommend Jennifer as a supportive and empathetic therapist for teenagers and young adults and also as someone who offers helpful suggestions, positive support and encouragement to the wider family.
