Amanda Sweeney is a traineecounsellor studying towards an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre and practicing with NHS Talking Therapies in Wandsworth. She is in the final year of her training and is a BACP registered student member, as well as a member of The Person-Centred Association. Amanda has also completed additional training in Cancer Support and Suicide Awareness and Response. Her integrative approach enables her to tailor therapy to each client’s individual needs, drawing on person-centred, humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches to provide flexible, compassionate support. Amanda works with clients experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties and is committed to offering a confidential, safe, and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at a pace that feels right for them.

Amanda’s approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that every individual has the capacity for growth and healing when they feel genuinely heard, accepted, and understood. She places the therapeutic relationship at the centre of her work, recognising that trust and safety are essential for meaningful change. Working integratively allows Amanda to adapt her approach to each client’s unique experiences and goals, helping them develop greater understanding of themselves, strengthen their sense of identity, and explore new ways of responding to life’s challenges. She supports clients in processing difficult emotions, recognising patterns that may no longer be helpful, and building greater confidence and resilience. Amanda aims to create a non-judgemental space where clients can reflect openly, reconnect with their own strengths, and move towards greater clarity, self-compassion, and emotional wellbeing.

Amanda’s decision to train as a counsellor was shaped by her own experience of navigating significant life challenges, including serious health difficulties, bereavement, relationship breakdown, and career change. Experiencing the benefits of counselling during this period gave her a deep appreciation of the value of having a safe, compassionate space to process difficult emotions and life experiences. Alongside her counselling training, this personal insight informs her empathetic and thoughtful approach while maintaining a clear professional focus on each client’s unique journey. Amanda has a particular interest in supporting clients affected by trauma, including medical trauma, childhood and intergenerational trauma, grief and loss, addiction, and the emotional impact of cancer. She brings warmth, authenticity, and compassion to her work, supporting clients in developing greater self-awareness, resilience, and hope as they move forward.
