Claire Matin offers a warm, non-judgmental space where clients can work through their difficult or painful thoughts and feelings and feel truly heard and valued. She draws upon a number of different theoretical approaches in a seamless way including person-centred, Gestalt, solution-focused and psychodynamic, according to what a client is going through or the issues that they are facing. Her practice is informed by an understanding of the interconnectedness of mind and body and she may use techniques to cultivate awareness of physical sensations and how they relate to thoughts and emotions.

She works collaboratively with her clients, exploring thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour and empowering them to develop their self-awareness and build on their inner resources. Claire views each client as unique and appreciates their distinct sense of self and belonging in the world. Her focus is on building a strong therapeutic alliance with each client as she believes that a sense of connection, trust and support is the cornerstone of emotional healing and personal growth.

Claire understands the emotional challenges that life can bring be it bereavement, work, family dynamics or relational issues and has experience volunteering for a helpline providing emotional support for people in distress. She has a particular interest in issues relating to self-esteem, stress, anxiety and low mood, and in helping people identify ways to best manage them for their individual circumstances.

Claire is an integrative counsellor registered with the BACP. She is working towards a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and works within The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service in Sutton.
