Ed Fennelly is an integrative counsellor working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting. His approach combines person-centred therapy and psychodynamic theory. He holds a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and is a member of the BACP. Ed provides a non-judgmental space where clients can explore their feelings, recognising that each individual is the expert on their own life, even if this may not feel true at the beginning of therapy. By building a strong therapeutic relationship in which clients feel understood and supported, he encourages them to challenge themselves and develop their self-esteem and self-worth.

Ed’s work is informed by the principles of person-centred therapy, particularly the emphasis on being genuine, empathetic, and accepting. He also incorporates psychodynamic ideas into his practice, helping clients gain insight into how past experiences influence present thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, as well as uncovering unconscious processes to deepen self-understanding. He has worked with a wide range of clients, most commonly supporting those experiencing low self-esteem, cannabis addiction, grief, and depression. He also has experience working with neurodivergent clients and adapts the therapeutic space to meet their individual needs.

Like many therapists, Ed has had an unconventional career path. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and, prior to training as a counsellor, worked as a professional pet sitter, primarily caring for cats. He also has a notably strong memory—being able to recall all the flags and capitals of the world—which he feels is a valuable asset in his work as a counsellor.
