Françoise Lauwerie
Françoise Lauwerie is a Body-Psychotherapy practitioner who completed post-graduate training in Biodynamic Body-Psychotherapy. Fully registered as a trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Françoise works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham on Thursday afternoons.
As a non-binary and sensitive practitioner, Françoise is aware that entering therapy can be very challenging, however, development can be achieved with pleasure also, offering a confidential and supportive therapeutic space. Recognising the uniqueness, vulnerability, and strength that clients bring to their session.
Françoise, who trained as a Body-Psychotherapist, believes in the interconnection between emotional experiences (such as anger, fear, sadness, anxiety, and depression) and body symptoms (such as tension, pain, and numbness). Being dedicated to listening and exploring whatever the client needs, Françoise believes that the body retains the memory of difficult events and encourages compassionate and curious exploration of bodily sensations, movements, and postures. This process helps clients gain body-awareness, promotes the flow of both verbal and non-verbal expression. In doing so, helps to make connections between past events and present difficulties. Françoise aims to assist clients in releasing stored tension, restoring healthy blood flow, and freeing up energy, which in turn facilitates deeper insights.
Françoise has a particular interest in supporting clients who feel different or lonely, helping them improve their relationships with themselves and others, also supporting clients who feel stuck or are navigating life transitions, assisting them in moving forward and living their best lives. After working as a science teacher, Françoise embarked on a career as a performance artist, which helped to create a co-constructed, non- judgmental, playful, and creative space for clients to feel free. This shift led to a completely new lifestyle and a move to a new country. A panic attack prompted Françoise to begin a body-oriented, trauma- sensitive journey of self-discovery, progressively exploring their family history to help them move forward in life and support others.
