Kerry Birch is a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor with an accredited Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling. She is also a registered member of the BACP. She works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham South. Kerry has a broad range of clinical experience supporting clients through a variety of emotional and psychological challenges including anxiety and low mood, loss, lack of purpose, life transitions, relational conflicts, identity issues and trauma. Kerry works with adults of all ages and backgrounds and has a particular interest and expertise in working with young adults and the unique challenges they face in today’s world.

Kerry recognises that starting therapy may feel intimidating. There may be some fear, vulnerability or even scepticism but therapy doesn’t have to be about long silences and frowns – there is room for enjoyment, creativity and even laughter. She works in a collaborative and down-to-earth manner, without hierarchy or judgement or jargon, believing that the insight and strength clients need to make change and shift unhealthy patterns is already within them – therapy just brings them to light. Kerry believes that the heart of effective therapy lies in the relationship between client and therapist – one built on trust, honest and attuned human connection, something increasingly lacking in today’s sometimes overwhelming world. She creates a safe, explorative space where clients can be truly heard, accepted and understood. And perhaps not feel alone for the first time in a long while? Through this collaboration, self-discovery and change really can begin.

Kerry doesn’t work with a one-fix-all approach simply because we are all so different. As an integrative therapist, she may draw on a range of approaches that best suit your needs, including but not limited to: Person-Centred therapy – putting your experience at the heart of the work, Psychodynamic approaches – exploring and understanding how the past may shape the present, Gestalt techniques – bringing awareness to the here and now, Solution focused work – identifying accessible strengths and opportunities and Transpersonal therapy – expanding consciousness for personal growth.

Aside from her therapy work, Kerry works in the commercial world and runs her own business. She is also a mum to two young adults. This gives her valuable insight into the conflicts and pressures of a modern working life alongside the importance of patience, humour, self-care and resilience. When she is not working, Kerry enjoys swimming, reading, walking her ageing dog and spending time with friends and family.
