Mary Humber is an integrative counselling student working within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham. She is a Student Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is currently working towards a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in psychoanalysis.

Mary takes an integrative approach, tailoring her therapeutic techniques to the unique needs of each client. She creates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and past experiences. Using a person-centred modality, her approach allows clients to lead sessions at their own pace, with guidance and support to foster self-awareness and personal growth. With a focus on psychodynamic theories, she enables clients to explore their formative history, understand how their past is impacting their present, and gain a deeper understanding of self. Mary draws on various modalities, including psychodynamic and humanistic approaches, to help clients identify behavioural patterns, triggers, and emotional responses that may be holding them back. She believes in the importance of self-reflection and emotional processing to facilitate meaningful and lasting change.

With a deep passion for mental health, Mary values the therapeutic relationship as a foundation for growth and transformation. Her previous experience in counselling has given her insight into the challenges clients may face when beginning therapy. She is particularly interested in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, and life transitions. Mary is committed to empowering clients to develop resilience, cultivate self-compassion, and move towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.
