Merve Tanrikulu is a trainee Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapist working towards her Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling & Psychotherapy and is registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). She is currently on placement within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham.

She is committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental, and empathic space, treating each client with respect and sensitivity in order to provide the right conditions for healing to take place. She believes strongly in meeting clients where they are and tailors her approach to the uniqueness of each individual. Drawing from her integrative training, Merve views presenting issues through both psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives, while also incorporating tools such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), guided visualisations, dream work, and grounding practices where appropriate. She is attentive to what is emerging in the therapeutic space and recognises that life’s challenges can also serve as opportunities for growth and transformation when explored with care and curiosity.

With a background in corporate life as a textile engineer, Maya later moved into entrepreneurship after completing her MBA and now runs her textile sourcing consultancy company. Having experienced the pressures of work, cultural transitions, and personal life challenges firsthand, she has a deep understanding of the impact these stresses can have and the importance of receiving support during such times.

She has a particular interest in working with anxiety, depression, isolation and loneliness, and issues around self-esteem. Merve believes that each person carries hidden strengths and potential within the depths of their psyche, and she is passionate about supporting clients to access these resources for healing, resilience, and personal growth.
