Nicola Gilbert is training to be an integrative psychotherapist and is undertaking a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy. She is a trainee with the UKCP and has over two years’ experience working with clients as well as seventeen years’ experience working in people related and wellbeing roles. Nicola works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting.

Nicola believes that psychotherapy can help people who feel lost and anxious to find their way to the life they want to live. Her aim is for clients to feel that they can explore what they want in life and try new things, such as talking with a psychotherapist, in a calm and empowering space.

Nicola helps people who are trying to get their future back following experiences of sexual assault, surviving domestic abuse, receiving a new or evolving health diagnosis, or recognising that their childhood wasn’t like other people’s. She also works with people who went to boarding or independent school. She has a particular interest in working with people experiencing chronic illness and ongoing health concerns, especially those undergoing gynaecological investigations and treatments, for example for endometriosis, fibroids, and PCOS.

As a trainee integrative psychotherapist, Nicola adapts her approach according to the client. This includes supporting people who do not necessarily know what to say or how psychotherapy works. Nicola uses psychodynamic approaches to explore the past, somatic models to support emotional awareness and understanding of what is going on in the present, and relational dynamics to help people understand where some of their reactions to themselves and other people originate. Nicola utilises trauma-informed practices and anti-oppressive models to work with people within their sociocultural contexts. She welcomes people of different cultures, ages, religions, genders, and sexual orientations, has experience working with clients with ADHD, and is proudly LGBTQ+ affirming.

Nicola has volunteered as a trainee psychotherapist at a women’s centre for two and a half years, as well as at a low cost online counselling service. She has experience working both short-term and long-term.
