Oriana Scalzulli hope to provide the relational conditions for clients to feel heard and explore their experiences in an entirely safe and confidential space. In her work, Oriana adopts a Gestalt approach, grounded in a holistic view of the human being as a whole of mind, body and environment. Therefore, she offers an embodied and culturally sensitive approach to counselling.
She gives clients the opportunity to creatively explore the themes they bring into therapy, with a focus on developing their awareness. In fact, she believes that awareness of our current way of being in the world is key to living more fully and to making the changes we wish to make. She has a particular interest in existential themes and in working collaboratively with clients to support them identifying their resources or developing new ones.
Oriana has a background in Social Anthropology and has always been interested in how social and cultural factors play a role in an individual’s life. In particular, she has examined processes of personal and collective creation of meaning. This now emerges in her work with clients, in that she offers them a space to identify or re-examine their own sources of meaning and value. Having worked and studied in different countries, Oriana has a personal lived experience of intercultural dynamics, with their potential for both disruption/distress and growth. As a long-term mindfulness meditation practitioner, she naturally integrates anon-judgemental and open observation of what is happening in the here and now into her therapeutic practice.
Oriana is a trainee Gestalt counsellor and is registered with the UKCP. She offers counselling in both English and Italian. She sees patients for counselling at a GP surgery in Lambeth with The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service. She is currently working towards a Master’s degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy.
