Sophia Povey
Sophia Povey offers a compassionate and supportive space for clients to explore the impact of their experiences, thoughts, and feelings within a safe and collaborative therapeutic environment. She works relationally, drawing on person-centred and attachment-based principles to help clients build insight, strengthen self-worth, and foster resilience. Sophia believes that therapy can play a valuable role in understanding how early attachment shapes the adult Self. She has a particular interest in experiences of abuse across the lifespan, which may contribute to distressing thoughts, internalised shame, or emotional overwhelm. With this in mind, she is committed to offering a focused and supportive space where clients can connect with themselves – explore how to enhance their day-to-day wellbeing, find grounding in the present, and work towards achievable goals that support a greater sense of stability, clarity, and quality of life.
Before training as a therapist, Sophia completed an MA in International Relations and worked in non-profit and community-based roles supporting minority and marginalised groups. This included working with homeless young people, individuals at risk of gang involvement, and people displaced from their home countries. These experiences deepened her understanding of systemic pressures, inequality, and the complex relational dynamics that shape a person’s internal world and sense of self.
Sophia Povey is a trainee integrative counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is currently working towards an advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and a Diploma in Trauma Therapy. Sophia works within the NHS Wandsworth service and also works as a Healthy Lifestyle Practitioner for NHS Enfield, supporting individuals in addressing behaviours that may be negatively impacting their wellbeing.
