Stephen Kenny
Stephen Kenny looks to understand and support clients, believing that the relationship between him and his clients is essential to therapy. He looks to help each person in the best way for them and understands that clients may require different types of support. Stephen looks to support an approach tailored to a client’s needs so that they are supported to deal with any issues they may have. Using an integrative approach, Stephen may use CBT or other approaches that benefit his clients. Stephen’s approach is to create a safe and empathetic environment for the client, keeping their welfare at the centre of therapy.
Stephen has worked for over 25 years in hospitality, dealing with individuals from diverse backgrounds and situations. He has worked through change with large and small groups in the public and private sectors, understanding the strain change can cause individuals. Stephen saw in his management roles how effective supporting individuals through life changes and stresses was. He mentored and developed individuals at various levels throughout his career, and it was part of the job he found very rewarding. He decided to study mental health to help in his role as a manager and after personal experience of counselling. This led to a desire to help others, and he decided to train as a counsellor to support individuals in dealing with life challenges.
Stephen is an integrative counsellor registered with the BACP. He works within the awareness centre, supporting individuals through the NHS Lambeth service. Stephen holds a first-class honours degree in Psychology and Counselling and is working towards a diploma in integrative counselling.
