Tom Lawman-Butler
Tom Lawman-Butler is an integrative counsellor and a member of the BACP. He works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service and NHS Lambeth. He is currently completing a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
Tom offers an empathetic, supportive and non-judgemental space where clients can feel genuinely seen, heard and understood. He understands counselling as a place not only to explore painful or confusing thoughts and feelings, but also to develop a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s capacity for change. Working integratively, Tom draws on a range of therapeutic approaches to help clients identify patterns in their thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and to explore how past experiences may continue to shape present day challenges. He adapts his way of working to each client’s individual needs, valuing collaboration and the therapeutic relationship as central to meaningful change.
Alongside his counselling training and NHS Talking Therapies placement experience, Tom brings over ten years of work as a coach, where he developed a strong appreciation for the complexities of growth, change and motivation. He also values the insight gained through his own long term experience as a counselling client, exploring how early experiences influence relationships with self and others. Tom is particularly interested in supporting clients to develop a compassionate and curious relationship with themselves, working sensitively with experiences of shame, self criticism and trauma. He aims to help clients reconnect with their feelings and needs, strengthen self understanding, and move towards living in ways that feel more authentic and aligned.
