Frankie Johnson - Visiting Diploma Tutor

Frankie Johnson is a visiting tutor for the TAC Diploma in Integrative Counselling. He works in Private Practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting and Clapham. He has a BA Hons degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Sociology / Social Psychology), an Advanced Level Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, a Post Graduate Certificate in Addiction Psychology and Counselling and is a registered member of the BACP.

While working as Project Co-ordinator, Training Officer, and Clinical Lead for various charities, Frankie designed and delivered accredited programmes for young people, and training programmes for service providers across the Voluntary Sector. As an integrative psychotherapeutic practitioner, his client work is informed by an understanding of how early relationships with parents, carers, family and peers, in conjunction with group norms and values, shape the patterns of relating that impact relationships in adulthood. By living and working in a multi-cultural environment as both mentor and therapist, Frankie has also developed a knowledge and understanding of the variants within cultures and sub-cultures, a perspective that enables him to work empathically and effectively with a wide range of client groups and learners.

It is Frankie’s passionate belief that a high level of cross-cultural competence has become essential to the work of therapists living in one of the world’s most diverse societies. In delivering our ‘Difference and Diversity’ workshops he is committed to helping trainees develop cultural sensitivity and understanding of cultural identities. Frankie nurtures cultural awareness by creating a space where learning is interactive, engaging and challenging, but where it is also safe to enhance a trainee’s client-facing work by identifying, discussing and addressing sensitive issues.
