Counselling placements at The Awareness Centre (TAC) are still up and running and we are actively recruiting during the Covid-19 period.
All TAC’s clinical services have moved online during the coronavirus lockdown, and we are now offering all our clients counselling and psychotherapy sessions via phone or online video (Zoom).
Your placement
You may be looking for a first placement to complete your client hours – or perhaps your previous placement has been put on pause because of the corona pandemic and you’re looking for a new organisation to volunteer with. Either way, we would love to hear from you.
We take on volunteer placement therapists at all stages of their training, from those just starting out after completing their Foundation certificates, to those close to qualifying or working towards accreditation. We have three levels of placement to accommodate students at different levels of experience and training.
Support and Training
We provide support and training on our systems and protocols, as well as how to work online or via phone. In-house group supervision is offered for two hours twice a month.
If you join TAC as a placement therapist, then you’ll be working with up to four clients per week in our NHS or low-cost services, or in our psychosexual and relationship service.
We offer counselling sessions to NHS patients registered with GP surgeries in the boroughs of Lambeth, Wandsworth and Sutton. This placement will be suitable for you if you’re looking to gain experience working with a broad range of issues and a diverse client base within a short-term framework (6 to 12 sessions). You’ll be able to work from the surgery once the Covid-19 lockdown has been lifted and we are able to return to face-to-face work.
TAC also has counselling centres in Clapham and Tooting, where we run our low-cost counselling service – where you can work on an open-ended basis with clients – as well as our psychosexual and relationship therapy service. Again, our centres will re-open once we’re advised it’s safe to do so.

Dear Karen, thank you for your interest in our counselling placement. We are based in London and so am not sure if this would be practical for you, but you can find out more information by visiting https://theawarenesscentre.com/counselling-placement/.
Dear Sir/Madam
I am currently studying counselling in Bangor University as part of a BACP recognised course. As part of requirements for qualifying as a counsellor we are required to complete 100 1:1 counselling hours. I have applied for a counselling placement position in your organisation as I read that you are doing remote therapy, however was not sure what to select in regards to a specific location as I am interested in both types of counselling however would be unable to volunteer in person at the locations provided on the list due to distance.
If anyone could provide more information on this, I would be greatly appreciative.
Kind Regards
Victoria Cluderay
Hello Victoria, thank you for your interest. Our placement is based in London and so would not be suitable for you. We wish you luck in finding the right position.
