Anna Cawood
Anna Cawood is a trainee integrative counsellor and member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She works within The Awareness Centre’s Low Cost Service in Clapham and is currently completing her Diploma in Integrative Counselling. She will begin an MSc in Psychology in September 2026.
Anna’s approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful change can emerge through a thoughtful exploration of how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. She offers a warm, reflective and non-judgemental space where clients can explore whatever feels important to them, whether this relates to anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, questions of identity, low self-esteem, or a more general sense of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain. Sometimes people come to therapy with a clear sense of what is troubling them, while at other times there may simply be a feeling that something is not quite as it should be. Therapy can provide an opportunity to pause, make sense of experiences, and develop a deeper understanding of patterns, emotional responses, and life transitions. Working integratively, Anna draws from person-centred and psychodynamic perspectives. She believes the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful foundation for change, offering a space where clients can feel heard, understood, and accepted. Together, Anna works with clients to notice recurring themes in relationships, explore underlying feelings such as guilt or shame, and consider how past experiences may continue to shape present challenges. Through this process, clients may begin to develop greater clarity about themselves, their relationships, and the choices available to them.
Before training as a counsellor, Anna spent over 30 years in educational management, followed by founding and leading a residential adolescent mental health clinic. Through this work, she developed a deep appreciation of the emotional complexity people carry, including experiences of anxiety, low mood, illness, bereavement and loss, addiction and periods of significant life transition. These experiences continue to inform Anna’s thoughtful and compassionate approach to therapeutic work.
