Chris believes in the individuals innate ability to strive towards the fulfilment of hopes and ambitions,  and the quality of the therapeutic relationship to support clients to achieve their aims. He is currently studying a person-centred approach, this approach allows clients to work through issues in a safe, non-judgemental, accepting environment. He has worked with children, young people and adults struggling to cope with overwhelming emotions and under clinical supervision, supported them to find a calmer moment. This experience combined with many years of mindfulness and Yoga training helps his work with clients seeking a calmer space. Chris believes in the constant endeavour towards self-development, his current studies are part of his desire to strive towards the highest level of academic achievement and self-awareness.

His career has spanned over 40 years in a wide variety of roles, including manager, mentor, trainer, tutor and business coach, working in the private and public sectors of Finance and Education, with thousands of people from many different backgrounds and roles. Chris developed and delivered programmes to help individuals become more effective managers, recognise the signs of stress and develop strategies to reduce its impact, achieve higher levels of performance and job satisfaction.

Chris Kirkness is a humanistic counsellor registered with BACP, working within the Awareness Centre Wandsworth NHS service, currently studying, second year, Level 4, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
