Daniel Isitt is a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is completing a Master’s in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of East London. His integrative approach combines elements of various therapeutic modalities, including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Existential, and Embodied therapy, depending on each client’s needs. Dan works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham.

Dan is deeply interested in how emotional challenges can manifest physically in the body and the powerful connection between mind and body. This holistic perspective guides his practice, where he works to understand the root causes of difficulties and their effects on both emotional and physical well-being.

In his work with clients, Dan focuses on creating a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space where individuals feel truly heard. Building a trusting relationship is at the core of his practice, as he believes it provides the foundation for meaningful change. He is committed to empowering clients to build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and navigate life’s challenges with greater self-awareness, confidence, and purpose.

Dan has experience in a range of somatic therapeutic techniques, including breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness, to help clients cultivate emotional regulation and develop practical strategies for well-being. He also draws on solution-focused therapy and CBT-based methods to help clients break free from unhelpful thought and behavioural patterns, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and move forward with clarity and a sense of control.

In addition to traditional therapy techniques, Dan enjoys working creatively with clients to unlock deeper insights and express emotions in new ways. Through art and music therapy, guided imagery, and visualisation, he supports clients in exploring difficult feelings, gaining insightful perspectives, and discovering new ways of processing their experiences.

Dan has a strong interest in supporting clients to explore their personal values and beliefs, helping them uncover meaning and purpose in their lives and relationships. By understanding a client’s core values, he works collaboratively to create a life that feels more aligned with their authentic self.

With over 12 years of experience in the charity sector, including roles with leading organisations supporting mental health, homelessness, and refugees, Dan has developed a deep understanding of human complexity and the power of compassionate care. This experience shapes his work, as he believes that empathy, trust, and genuine human connection can bring about transformative change. He also specialises in supporting individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress and panic attacks, as well as supporting individuals who are experiencing eating disorders and self-harming behaviours.
