Edwina Bowen is a trainee psychodynamic psychotherapist and is registered with the BPF. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting. Edwina has completed a Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy and Counselling and is working towards a Clinical Qualification in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. She is an Executive Coach, accredited with the Association for Coaching.

Edwina offers a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space for clients to talk about the feelings, fears and concerns that are making them unhappy. Edwina works from a psychodynamic perspective, based on the principle that problems and distress in the present may be related to early experiences. Taking a highly individual approach, she is interested in working with clients to explore life, work and relationship issues to understand the role of defence mechanisms, the repetition of behavioural patterns and obstacles to positive interpersonal dynamics. These issues can present as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem or suicidal thoughts, which can be alleviated through talking to a therapist. Edwina works with clients to develop their self-awareness and help them toward a level of emotional and psychological balance. She looks to support clients empathetically and thoughtfully to identity unhelpful coping strategies and gain fresh insights to allow them to move forward.

With a background in investment banking and executive coaching, Edwina has an interest in personal and professional life transitions and their impact on relational dynamics. Edwina has experience working with adults of all ages and of diverse backgrounds. Her special interest is in work-related stress, relationships and self-esteem issues. Alongside her psychotherapy and coaching practices, she is a volunteer mentor to young adults looking for employment.
