Emma Hartigan is a trainee integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is currently working towards a Level 5 Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre and works with NHS Talking Therapy in Lambeth. Emma offers an integrative approach, drawing on different therapeutic perspectives to respond to each client’s individual needs and circumstances. Her work within the NHS incorporates a solution-focused model, supporting clients to recognise their strengths, develop effective coping strategies and work towards meaningful and achievable change.

Emma provides a warm, safe and accepting space where clients can feel heard and understood for who they are. She believes that all parts of a person are welcome in therapy and aims to create an environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences without fear of judgement. Emma works collaboratively with her clients, taking the time to understand their individual experiences and supporting them to develop greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of themselves. While therapy can offer a space to process difficult or painful experiences, Emma also sees it as an opportunity for personal growth, helping clients recognise their inner resources, build confidence and move towards a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. Her integrative approach allows her to adapt her way of working according to what each client needs, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Before becoming a counsellor, Emma developed a varied professional background, working as a chef in busy kitchens and later in the technology industry, where she managed large teams. These experiences have given her first-hand insight into pressure, demanding workplace cultures, hierarchy, expectations and the challenges that can arise when trying to find and use your voice. Emma has a particular interest in supporting women who may feel overlooked, less empowered or unsure of themselves, whether in the workplace, relationships, family dynamics or during periods of change. She is especially interested in working with anxiety, self-esteem, relationships and the impact of stress and external expectations on a person’s sense of self. Emma supports clients to recognise and communicate their needs, develop healthier boundaries and strengthen their confidence, with the aim of helping them feel more grounded, connected to themselves and able to make choices that reflect what truly matters to them.
