Felicity Brook
Felicity Brook is a trainee psychotherapist and registered member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). She works in The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham. Felicity is working towards an MSc in Person-Centred Psychotherapy.
Felicity uses a person-centred approach with her clients. This means she aims to make the therapy room an accepting space where clients can explore whatever it is they wish to bring. She then works with her clients, together, to make sense of things.
Felicity is passionate about the person-centred approach because she believes in how powerful it can be to be truly seen, understood and accepted. She also believes her clients are the experts of their experiences and have the resources within themselves for change. In a non-judgemental and empathic space, they may be able to access those resources.
Felicity appreciates that starting therapy can be daunting. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the person-centred approach, and Felicity will start building the relationship with her clients right from the beginning, celebrating their autonomy and individuality. She has experience working with anxiety – including feeling anxious about talking to a new therapist – as well as loneliness, isolation, relationships and trauma. Whilst every client is different, Felicity always works in a trauma-informed way as part of her commitment to ethical practice.
Before beginning her training as a psychotherapist, Felicity was an English teacher in Hong Kong. Felicity loved talking to her students about their experiences and tough times, and decided to leave teaching to support young people with their mental health. Felicity moved back to the UK and began working with young adults struggling to stay in education, as well as people affected by domestic abuse and gender-based violence. She developed an interest in life transitions, family relationships, and the impact of trauma.
