Fiona Vandermeer
Fiona Vandermeer graduated with a Distinction as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and is a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). The BABCP’s ethical framework, principles, values and good practice standards are at the core of her practice. She is also a member of The Complementary Medical Association (CMA) which has an absolute commitment to excellence and professionalism. CMA Members care deeply about their clients and are dedicated to offering only the very best services possible. Fiona works in private practice at The Awareness Centre Clapham.
Fiona uses CBT which is a type of talking therapy and is a recognised treatment for a range of mental health issues. CBT teaches you coping mechanisms for dealing with different issues and seeks to improve your state of mind by teaching you to spot the links between your thoughts, actions and feelings. The basic premise of CBT is that emotions are difficult to change directly so CBT targets emotions by changing thoughts and behaviours that are contributing to the distressing emotions. Fiona is patient, highly empathetic and a skilled listener. She ensures that clients feel safe and comfortable in a positive, kind and non-judgemental open environment. She allows them the space to explore their experiences and helps them through their struggles. She builds a natural rapport with her clients that has a basis of warmth, genuine support and understanding.
Fiona’s mental health journey started when working for Shout which is a mental health charity. She completed rigorous online training to prepare for assisting people in crisis with suicide, self-harm, depression and abuse. Fiona’s background was working for the Four Seasons Hotels with an unwavering commitment to excellence. The Golden Rule there was to treat others how we wanted to be treated, which is something she has always aspired to. In her role as a CBT Therapist, she is dedicated to treating those with a range of psychological issues including anxiety disorders, phobias, PTSD, abuse and depression. She also has a wealth of experience counselling ex-service personnel and the LGBTQIA+ community.
