Lara Melwani is a Master’s level trained counsellor and has had experience working in Hong Kong and now the UK providing counselling services within the private and charity sectors. She is a Registered Member of the BACP and Accredited Registrant Member of the NCPS, working in private practice with adults and couples at The Awareness Centre in Tooting.

Lara adopts a multi-model integrated approach to therapy and draws upon evidence-based techniques that include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as Solution-Focused Therapy. Each client is considered individually, and counselling tools are suggested that best resonate with them.  She works collaboratively with clients tailoring interventions to suit each individual’s unique and specific needs and at the client’s own pace, suitable for their particular situation.

Lara previously worked in Hong Kong, Africa and the UK as a marketing professional within the corporate and small business sectors after which she decided to pursue a more fulfilling career as a counsellor. She is passionate about the positive impact therapy can have on the quality of life and is committed to helping clients overcome challenges in a supportive, safe and non-judgmental manner. Her multicultural background and life experiences enhance her approach to therapy, empowering clients to gain new perspectives and a deeper understanding of their experiences. She has helped individuals from all walks of life and cultures address and manage stress, anxiety, depression, grief, work-life balance and relationship issues. She has worked with clients facing life transitions as well as those who have wanted to deepen their self-awareness and has helped individuals understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences. Her area of special interest is relationship and couples counselling and is trained in The Gottman Method Couples Therapy (level 1& 2).

She has previously been a member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Hong Kong Society of Counselling & Psychology (HKSCP) and Psychotherapy Society of Hong Kong (PSHK). In addition, she holds a level 1 certificate in Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
