Marina is a trainee integrative counsellor completing an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre, where she works within the low-cost counselling service. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Marina takes an integrative approach, drawing on different therapeutic perspectives to respond to the individual needs and experiences of each client.
Marina believes that every person has within them the resources and capacity for healing, growth and change. She sees the therapeutic relationship as central to this process, creating a space where clients can explore their feelings and experiences openly, without judgement or pressure to be anything other than themselves. Her approach is rooted in Person-Centred Therapy, informed by psychodynamic and attachment theories, which help explore how past experiences and relationships may continue to shape how we feel about ourselves and relate to others. She also draws on Gestalt approaches to deepen awareness of emotions and experiences in the present moment. Whether clients are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with difficult emotions or finding themselves caught in recurring patterns, Marina works alongside them to develop greater self-understanding, self-acceptance and new possibilities for change.
Before training as a counsellor, Marina spent many years in management consulting, working with people and organisations through demanding environments, uncertainty and change. Her move into counselling reflects a longstanding interest in understanding people, their relationships and what helps them navigate life’s challenges. Alongside raising a family, her professional experience has given her an appreciation of the pressures of balancing personal and professional responsibilities, and how expectations and relationships can influence our wellbeing and sense of self. Marina has a particular interest in supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, work-related stress, relationship difficulties and life transitions, as well as those exploring questions of identity, including gender identity and belonging. She recognises how personal and societal expectations can sometimes leave people feeling disconnected from their own needs and values, and hopes to support clients in finding a more authentic way of relating to themselves and others.
