Tasnim Noam
Tasnim Noam is an integrative counsellor in training who works within The Awareness Centre’s counselling service. She is currently working towards a Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy Counselling. Her qualifications include a Level 3 Diploma in Counselling, a Post-Foundation Diploma in Psychoanalytic Studies, an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies and a BA in Clinical Psychology. Tasnim has over five years of experience in mental health and support work, working with individuals, families and groups across a range of settings. Her approach draws on integrative and person-centred principles, with a particular focus on trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice. She aims to provide a safe, respectful and confidential space where clients feel heard, understood and supported.
Tasnim offers a warm, steady and non-judgemental space in which clients can explore their experiences at their own pace. She works collaboratively, tailoring her approach to each individual’s needs and circumstances, and supporting clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, build coping strategies and strengthen their emotional regulation and resilience. Her practice is informed by an awareness of how culture, faith, identity and experiences of displacement can shape a person’s emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging. Tasnim recognises the importance of understanding each client within the context of their wider life experiences, rather than viewing their difficulties in isolation. She seeks to create an environment in which clients feel respected and able to explore sensitive or difficult experiences without fear of judgement. She offers counselling in Arabic, English and French, and speaks several Arabic dialects. This enables clients to express themselves in the language or dialect in which they feel most comfortable, particularly when exploring experiences and emotions that may be difficult to put into words.
Tasnim’s professional background includes providing psychosocial support with the World Health Organization, offering urgent support to people experiencing anxiety, and working in domestic abuse advocacy. She has particular experience supporting refugees, survivors of domestic abuse and honour-based violence, and neurodivergent children and their families. Her work has also focused on mental health support across the South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region and its diaspora communities. Through these experiences, Tasnim has developed an understanding of the challenges associated with trauma, gender-based violence, migration and displacement, as well as the importance of safeguarding, risk assessment and multi-agency collaboration. Her areas of particular interest include trauma, gender-based violence, anxiety, migration and displacement, and emotional wellbeing within SWANA communities. These experiences continue to inform her practice, enabling her to approach clients with cultural awareness, sensitivity and respect for their individual circumstances.
