Shannon Denning
Shannon Denning provides a warm and welcoming space for clients to explore whatever it is that is troubling them, and a space to be heard without judgement. Shannon follows an integrative model grounded in psychodynamic therapy, as she believes that by understanding our unconscious patterns and behaviours, we can begin to unlearn the patterns that no longer serve us in a positive way. By working integratively, Shannon draws on many techniques tailored to each client’s individual needs as she understands that each person’s experience is unique to them. Working collaboratively, she provides a space that, not only allows clients to process difficulties, but also to realise their own potential and resources that will allow them to move towards a more satisfied life, whatever that may look like.
Before training as a counsellor, Shannon worked as a Police Officer in London on the front line. This experience has deepened Shannon’s insight into a whole array of issues that adults are facing, and the consequences this can have on their lives. It has allowed Shannon the experience of supporting those in crisis and working together in moving forward. Shannon’s journey into therapy started when she herself faced workplace stress, leading to burnout. She draws on these insights and experiences to support those with work related issues, anxiety, depression, and the effects these can have on self-esteem. Her past professional experience partnered with her new role as a trainee counsellor combine to provide a truly empathetic space for people to address their emotional concerns, with the utmost understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
Shannon is an Integrative Trainee Counsellor, and a member of the BACP. She works within The Awareness Centre’s NHS Lambeth service, and is working towards her Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
