As an integrative counsellor Adam Davies is aware that individuals come to therapy for various reasons and subsequently adapts the approach to best suit the clients presenting needs. For Adam the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance as it can empower the client to explore and develop their patterns of behaviour. Adam seeks to build a safe and supportive relationship through being attentive, empathetic and non-judgement. Adam utilises a humanistic approach of working with clients alongside elements of psychodynamic theory to help identify where patterns may have originally stemmed from. Through the integration of these different elements Adam believes it allows the client to see themselves as a whole and ultimately work towards fulfilling their potential.
Throughout Adam’s previous careers he has worked with individuals around mental and emotional health. Adam has previously volunteered at Samaritans’ providing emotional support to individuals facing emotional despair, struggling to cope or at risk of suicide. Following this Adam has gone on to working with both young people and adults in the prevention of homelessness. Adam has supported individuals around different issues that has had a subsequent effect upon their ability to cope in certain aspects. Working with quite hard to reach individuals Adam had been able to gradually building strong rapports with those he supported and in time often became the first person that individuals would open up to. For Adam this felt like a real privilege to be trusted with such difficult conversations. Adam similarly felt a strong sense of inspiration from individuals that had faced such trauma and adversity from a young age but despite this had managed to take positive steps to further themselves. These aspects have ultimately lead Adam towards pursuing a career in counselling.
Adam is an integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. He works within The Awareness Centre’s low cost counselling service in Clapham alongside working towards a diploma in therapeutic counselling.
