Anne Marie
Anne Marie Hennessy is a trainee integrative counsellor who has completed a Level 5 Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre and is a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Coach. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is currently completing her clinical placement with NHS Talking Therapies, working towards accreditation. Anne Marie provides a safe, confidential, inclusive and non-judgemental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace. She understands that seeking counselling can feel daunting and works to build a therapeutic relationship in which clients feel respected, heard and accepted for who they are.
Anne Marie takes a warm, compassionate, collaborative and individualised approach to counselling. As an integrative practitioner, she draws on different therapeutic perspectives and adapts her way of working to each client’s individual needs, experiences and goals, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. She believes that the therapeutic relationship is central to creating a space where clients can explore difficult experiences safely, develop greater self-understanding and identify ways of moving forward. Her practice is also informed by many years of teaching yoga, Pilates, mindfulness and creative movement, which has given her a strong awareness of the connection between emotional and physical wellbeing. She is particularly interested in how developing greater awareness of the mind and body can support resilience, self-awareness and overall wellbeing.
Before training as a counsellor, Anne Marie worked in a variety of frontline support, advocacy, education and wellbeing roles. Her experience includes working as a specialist caseworker supporting survivors of institutional abuse, volunteering with the mental health charity Mind, and working as a disability job coach at Remploy Brixton. She has also worked as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Chichester, teaching movement to undergraduate acting students, and delivered stress management and wellbeing workshops for staff at the University of the Arts London (UAL). In addition, she has taught English as a foreign language (TEFL) to people of many nationalities around the world. These varied experiences have developed her understanding of trauma, disability, mental health, diversity and resilience, and continue to shape her compassionate and person-centred approach. Anne Marie supports clients to explore their challenges, recognise their strengths and develop greater self-awareness and wellbeing.
