Ashwak Aboker
Ashwak Aboker is a trainee integrative counsellor currently working towards a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and undertaking a clinical placement with The Awareness Centre through the NHS Talking Therapies in Lambeth. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, which developed her interest in human behaviour, individual experiences and the factors that shape how people understand themselves and others. Her integrative approach draws on a range of therapeutic perspectives, allowing her to consider each client’s individual circumstances, needs and experiences rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Through her training and clinical placement, Ashwak is developing her understanding of how counselling can support people in exploring emotional difficulties, gaining self-awareness and working towards meaningful change.
Ashwak aims to provide an open, empathetic and non-judgemental space where clients feel comfortable talking honestly about their thoughts, feelings and experiences. She views counselling as a collaborative process in which the client and counsellor work alongside one another, building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, openness and mutual respect. As an attentive listener, she values taking the time to understand each person’s perspective without making assumptions or judgements. She believes in being honest and transparent within the therapeutic relationship while respecting each client’s boundaries and individual pace. Rather than offering solutions or telling clients what they should do, Ashwak seeks to work alongside them to explore their concerns, recognise their strengths and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. She recognises that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting and aims to create a supportive environment where clients feel accepted, heard and able to be themselves.
Ashwak has a particular interest in supporting people who are experiencing challenges relating to self-esteem, anxiety, relationships, life transitions and other difficulties that may affect their emotional wellbeing. Her academic background in criminology and criminal justice has contributed to her interest in the complexities of human behaviour and the wider circumstances that can influence people’s lives and experiences. She appreciates that everyone’s difficulties are shaped by their own unique histories and circumstances, and that there is no single approach that works for everyone. Ashwak hopes to support clients in exploring the issues that matter to them, developing greater confidence in themselves and finding ways to navigate challenges that feel right for them. Her aim is to offer a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic space in which clients can feel understood, explore new perspectives and work towards a greater sense of self-understanding and emotional wellbeing.
