Joanna (Jo) Lewis is a trainee counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre and works within The NHS Talking Therapies in Lambeth. Jo’s integrative training enables her to tailor therapy to each individual, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Solution-Focused therapy, to create a counselling relationship that is responsive to each client’s unique needs. She works in accordance with the professional and ethical standards of both the BACP and HCPC.

Jo believes that everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and accepted without judgement. Her aim is to create a warm, reflective, and collaborative space where people feel safe enough to explore difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences at their own pace. She recognises the impact that life experiences, relationships, and wider systems can have on emotional wellbeing and approaches each client with compassion, curiosity, and respect. Working integratively allows Jo to adapt her approach to the individual, supporting clients in developing greater self-awareness, resilience, and self-compassion. She works with people experiencing anxiety, low mood, and life transitions, helping them gain insight into their experiences and build healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges.

Initially training as a Dramatherapist, Jo has over 20 years of experience supporting people across the fields of addiction, mental health, and homelessness. For the past 10 years, she has worked with women within an intensive trauma-informed service, further developing her understanding of the lasting impact of trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, and loss. These experiences have shaped her compassionate and grounded approach to counselling and strengthened her commitment to providing thoughtful, person-centred support. Jo brings a wealth of experience working alongside people facing complex and challenging circumstances, helping them to recognise their strengths, develop resilience, and move towards greater emotional wellbeing.
