Joel Bild
Joel Bild is a qualified and BACP Registered integrative therapist working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham, London. He has previously worked in-house for a large counselling service in South London, specialising in NHS referrals and low-cost therapy. Clients often describe his style as warm, grounded and professional.
Joel offers a relational, confidence-centred approach to therapy, supporting adults whose confidence, self-worth or sense of self have been shaped by difficult life experiences. People often seek therapy with him in the context of anxiety, depression, bereavement or loss, stress, anger, trauma or relationship difficulties, as well as longer-standing patterns of self-doubt or feeling stuck.
He has extensive experience working with addictions and recovery, men’s issues, patterns of codependency* and relationship difficulties, including in-depth knowledge of 12-step recovery frameworks.
Codependency refers to patterns of becoming overly focused on others’ needs at the expense of one’s own wellbeing, often linking self-worth to the approval of others.
As an integrative therapist, Joel tailors his approach to each individual’s needs, preferences and capacity at a particular point in time. Therapy may involve developing greater emotional awareness and grounding, exploring how early relationships continue to influence present-day experience, noticing unhelpful patterns of thought or behaviour, or using creative and experiential approaches such as visualisation or drawing where words alone feel insufficient.
At the heart of Joel’s work is the belief that confidence and emotional wellbeing grow through relationship. Therapy offers a space to deepen self-understanding, strengthen self-trust and develop a greater sense of freedom to be oneself, without pressure or expectation.
Alongside therapy, Joel is also a certified professional coach. Therapy and coaching are distinct approaches: therapy focuses on understanding, healing and emotional change, while coaching is more future-focused. Some clients choose to engage in coaching after completing a period of therapy, or where it feels appropriate, and this can be discussed together during an initial session.
