Kara Rosenberg is an integrative counsellor working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham. She holds a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, is a Registered Member of the BACP, and has an MSc in Psychology, accredited by the British Psychological Society, with Distinction. Kara trained clinically within NHS Talking Therapies, working predominantly with anxiety and depression at all levels of severity as well as connected disorders and complexities. She has worked with a diverse range of clients across NHS, prisons, and private practice settings. She offers therapy in English, French and Italian.

People often come to Kara when the way they have been living stops working quietly. From the outside, their lives may look steady, even enviable; inside, there is anxiety that arrives at 3 am, a flatness that will not lift, or a growing sense that the life they built and the person they are, have drifted apart. Kara provides a warm, unhurried space where clients can set down what they carry for everyone else and be met as they actually are. She works in an integrative, shaping the approach around each client rather than fitting anyone to a method, and she places the therapeutic relationship at the centre of the work. Alongside it she pays close attention to what happens in the room and in the body as clients speak, and, where it helps, to where a pattern first began. Her approach is equally grounded in psychological science: to Kara, research and feeling belong together. The research offers a map of how people think, change and heal; the therapy room is where that map meets what a client feels, and integrating the two is at the heart of how she works.

Before retraining as a therapist, Kara spent fifteen years in international finance and consulting, working at a fast pace across countries, cultures and languages. Alongside that career she counselled men in prison, and both worlds taught her the same lesson: people can begin again from anywhere. This background gives her a particular feel for capable, high-functioning clients, the ones who hold demanding jobs and families together, who others lean on, and who rarely show what it costs them. Kara works most often with anxiety, worry and panic; depression and low mood; stress and burnout; low self-esteem and self-criticism; OCD and intrusive thoughts; adult ADHD; relationship and family difficulties; disordered eating and body image; women’s health; and life transitions and questions of identity. Her master’s research explored the lived experience of people with OCD and is being prepared for publication, and she has a special interest in low self-esteem, which so often lies quiet beneath the difficulties that bring people to therapy.
