Melanie aims to provide a safe and quiet place of refuge from the current storms of life, which we all encounter, where you will be free, as expert of your own experiences, to express your thoughts and feelings. With best hopes for therapy in mind, the potentially daunting prospect of exploring what is going on for you, transforms into an opportunity for change, while at the same time reframing the challenges we face, through conversation. Melanie will relate to you through the therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect, where we recognise that, as humans, with our shared vulnerabilities, amidst the chaos of life, we are more alike than different.

Having taken a certificate course in psychodynamic therapy, her practice is informed by the impact of early attachment and the potential for disruption to this early bonding and subsequent consequences. However, she believes that there is no leverage in the therapeutic relationship if one thinks that one’s problems are caused by something outside of oneself. However, it’s a question of ‘what do you want?’ even though we have ourselves and our problems to face.

After a degree in Psychology, Melanie continued to be fascinated by the powerful effect we can have on one another, by listening carefully, to help make sense of overwhelming confusion and distress, this time, in the international corporate world of sales and marketing. Being heard and understood brings new insights. She believes that care demonstrated, without judgment, can facilitate an assumption of responsibility and agency which brings hope.

Melanie is a trainee integrative counsellor working towards a Diploma. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is currently on placement through The Awareness Centre, with Talking Therapies, NHS Wandsworth.
