Sonia Polowy is a trainee Integrative Counsellor and a registered student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is currently working towards a Level 5 Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre and undertaking a clinical placement with NHS Talking Therapies in Wandsworth. Her integrative training enables her to draw on different therapeutic perspectives and adapt her approach to each client’s individual circumstances, needs and hopes for counselling. Sonia believes that therapy is a collaborative process and that creating a strong therapeutic relationship can provide a supportive foundation for exploring difficulties, developing self-awareness and working towards meaningful change.

Sonia offers a warm, compassionate and collaborative approach, grounded in the belief that every client is unique and that therapy should be shaped around the individual rather than follow a fixed formula. She places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of her work and aims to create a confidential, accepting and non-judgemental space where clients can feel genuinely heard and understood. Sonia recognises that beginning counselling can feel daunting, particularly when someone is experiencing distress, uncertainty or a sense of being stuck. She therefore works at a pace that feels manageable for each client, offering space to explore thoughts, emotions, relationships and patterns of behaviour with curiosity and care. Rather than providing ready-made answers, she works alongside clients to help them develop greater self-awareness, recognise their strengths and inner resources, and discover ways of moving forward that feel meaningful to them. Her aim is to support personal growth, emotional resilience and a more compassionate relationship with oneself.

Alongside her clinical training and experience, Sonia brings a breadth of life experience that informs her grounded and thoughtful approach to counselling. This has given her an appreciation of the many pressures, responsibilities and changes that can arise throughout adult life, as well as the ways in which family dynamics, relationships and changing roles can influence emotional wellbeing and a person’s sense of self. Sonia has a particular interest in supporting people through periods of transition, whether they are facing unexpected change, adjusting to a new stage of life or questioning what they want for the future. She also works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties, helping them explore how past and present experiences may be affecting them. Through greater understanding and self-compassion, Sonia supports clients in recognising patterns that may no longer be helpful and exploring choices that are more closely aligned with their needs and values.
