Steve Brooks
Steve offers a caring, safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where clients can communicate, discuss and heal painful trauma and experiences. This secure environment also allows clients to explore and discover why their behaviour or life inexplicably and repeatedly arrives at the same unwished-for place. Steve’s doctrine is that everyone is unique, has intrinsic human value, and deserves happiness, inner peace, and contentment. With this inner environment, the individual can engage successfully in relationships with others, life and themselves. Yet life is beset with challenges, obstacles and trauma, which can affect one’s psychological and emotional health. Steve’s philosophy is that humans have an innate power to heal themselves and live their full potential. He uses person-centred/psychodynamic therapy to support and facilitate the self-healing process, which, in turn, nurtures the restoration of the client’s authentic self, a state of being where one is in harmony with their true values, beliefs, and desires.
Steve recognises that past and present experiences or specific issues can be difficult, painful, and debilitating to think about, let alone communicate. He understands that these experiences can profoundly impact our psyche and behaviour, often without us even realising it. We can live with the desire that it is easier to ignore things and hope or expect that they will disappear or fade with time. Unfortunately, this approach doesn’t always work, and the reality is that this way of handling things can start to work against us, making our lives worse.
Steve Brooks uses an Integrative therapeutic approach to counselling, is registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, works with The Awareness Centre’s NHS Counselling Service Wandsworth and is currently working towards a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
