Valerie Burgess
Valerie Burgess is an Integrative Psychotherapist working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham on Wednesday mornings. She has an MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy (Distinction) and is registered with the UKCP and HCPC. Valerie offers both talking therapy and art therapy to individuals, whether face-to-face, online or via telephone.
Valerie has a warm and open approach, enabling clients to feel comfortable and at ease as they begin therapy. She offers a non-judgemental, compassionate and confidential space where clients can express their feelings and explore some of the difficulties and challenges they may be experiencing. Valerie’s integrative psychotherapy training means she is not fixed to one modality or one school of thought. She works collaboratively with clients to adapt her psychotherapy practice to their needs, understanding that everyone’s experience of life is different. Many choose talking therapy, but for those less able to verbalise their thoughts and feelings she introduces various art forms to the therapy space to enable clients to express themselves through other means.
Valerie’s work in the NHS, the charity sector and in private practice has enabled her to support clients with a wide range of presenting issues, including drug and alcohol addiction and recovery, domestic violence and sexual abuse, personality disorders, PTSD, bereavement, loss, and long-term illness.
Valerie feels privileged to work with a diverse range of clients from many cultures and socio-economic backgrounds and is committed to working inclusively. She is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and follows its standards of proficiency. She is also a member of UKCP and abides by its ethical framework for good practice. Valerie receives regular supervision and is committed to continued growth and development as a psychotherapist through regular trainings.
