Amina Yussuph is a trainee integrative counsellor registered with the BACP and works within The Awareness Centre, practising with NHS Talking Therapies in Wandsworth. She has a BPS-accredited Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Psychology and Counselling and is currently completing her Diploma in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre.

Amina provides a warm, compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental space where clients can feel truly heard, seen and understood. She understands that counselling can be difficult and that opening up about personal experiences, emotions and challenges can feel overwhelming. She recognises that it can take time to feel comfortable and therefore aims to create a welcoming, non-judgemental space where clients feel safe, heard and supported. She aims to support clients through their challenges and struggles, offering a space where their experiences can be acknowledged. Working from a humanistic, person-centred approach, Amina recognises that every individual’s experiences, circumstances and needs are unique. She therefore tailors her therapeutic approach to each client. She believes that each client holds their own inner wisdom and has the capacity to find a sense of direction within themselves. Her role is to walk alongside them, providing a safe and supportive space to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Amina has a strong interest in understanding people, their experiences and the factors that can influence their wellbeing. Before training as a counsellor, Amina worked as a mental health support worker, helping young adults with complex mental health issues. Additionally, she worked as a Recovery Manager, supporting residents with complex mental health issues, including schizophrenia, substance misuse, ADHD and bipolar disorder. This experience has developed her therapeutic skills and given her valuable insight into the importance of compassion, patience and seeing the person beyond their circumstances. Her professional background has developed her ability to build trusting relationships, listen with empathy and recognise each person’s strengths, resilience and capacity for change. Amina’s areas of interest in counselling include supporting clients with low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression, guilt and shame, life transitions and relationship breakdowns.
