Charlotte Rickwood
Charlotte Rickwood is an integrative counsellor working within The Awareness Centre’s NHS counselling service in Lambeth. She has completed the academic component of her Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and is currently completing her remaining clinical hours, while working towards professional accreditation with the BACP. Charlotte has experience working with adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and periods of change and transition. Her integrative approach allows her to draw on different therapeutic perspectives and adapt the way she works according to each client’s individual needs and circumstances.
Charlotte offers a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where clients can feel heard, understood and able to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences openly. She believes that therapy is a collaborative process and that developing a deeper understanding of ourselves can create greater awareness and choice in how we respond to the challenges we face. Charlotte has a particular interest in psychodynamic therapy and in exploring how our early experiences and relationships can shape the ways we think, feel and relate to ourselves and others in the present. Rather than offering advice or telling clients what they should do, she works alongside each person to gently explore what may be underlying their difficulties and what they may need to move forward. Charlotte draws on different therapeutic approaches according to the individual, whilst working at a pace that feels comfortable and appropriate for them. She aims to create a therapeutic relationship built on trust, openness and acceptance, where clients feel safe to explore even the more difficult or painful aspects of their experiences.
Before training as a counsellor, Charlotte worked in the creative and media industries, including digital production across television and film. Her experience of working in fast-paced and demanding environments has given her an understanding of the pressures that can come with professional life, as well as an interest in identity, self-worth, relationships and the ways these can be affected by our work and wider circumstances. Charlotte also has a particular interest in neurodiversity, including ADHD and OCD, and how these experiences can influence emotional wellbeing, relationships and self-esteem. She is particularly interested in working with adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, ADHD and neurodiversity, as well as addiction, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and periods of change and transition.
