Andy believes the therapeutic relationship or alliance between client and counsellor is the key to creating a warm, supportive and collaborative environment to allow effective realisation, acceptance and growth to take place, appreciating that a client is the true expert in the room about their life. Working together, counselling can explore struggles and difficulties, identifying and activating a client’s own resources to make positive change.

Andy’s career has mostly been in key support positions in assorted sectors -entertainment, corporate, public service and hospitality – all of which provide their own stresses and negatively impacting cultures. He regularly found himself taking on a pastoral care role, mediating and supporting others with their struggles with stress, anxiety and relationships, and also learning through self-care and self-development how to manage his own.

Originally connecting with the person-centred approach, Andy’s studies have enabled him to broaden his understanding, appreciation and skillset of what might best work for a particular client and situation from across the modalities – such as Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Solution Focused therapies. Andy works integratively, sensitively tailoring techniques from his toolkit according to each unique client’s individual needs.

Andy is a student member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), working towards a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, and works according to the Ethical Framework of the BACP. He is currently on clinical placement with NHS Wandsworth.
