Daniel Handanos is a Person-Centred counsellor and a member of the BPS. He has an undergraduate degree was in psychology, his masters degree was in clinical child psychology, and has published research within the field of adolescent psychology. He works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Clapham and is also working towards a professional doctorate in counselling psychology.

Daniel creates a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where clients feel safe to express themselves and be truly heard as the unique individuals they are. He believes that while therapy helps clients process challenging and often painful experiences, it also serves as a powerful opportunity to uncover the inner strength and resilience to overcome them. Working collaboratively, Daniel empowers his clients to tap into their innate abilities, with a view to support them towards a more fulfilling and balanced quality of life. Grounded in a person-centred approach, he often integrates Rogerian techniques to assist clients recognise patterns in their experiences, gain deeper insight, and help develop healthier ways of understanding and managing these challenges. His approach is always tailored to the unique needs, goals, and life experiences of each client, ensuring a deeply personalised therapeutic journey.

Daniel has more than 10 years of experience within the field of healthcare and mental health, which includes working with a broad range of clients and settings. His experience as a counsellor within the military has equipped him to work effectively with issues relating to high-stress environments, supporting individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, and stress-related difficulties. His work often involves helping clients cultivate self-awareness and strategies that enhance their emotional well-being. Additionally, his background in neuropsychology brings valuable expertise in supporting individuals and families to navigate significant life changes, brought about by conditions such as dementia and brain injury. His work in these areas has deepened his understanding of the cognitive, emotional, and relational challenges that clients face, enabling him to provide compassionate and practical support. Daniel also has a keen interest in helping clients manage transitions and build resilience in the face of adversity, guiding them towards lasting personal growth and overall improved quality of life.
