Maryam Akbarzadeh
Maryam Akbarzadeh brings a unique blend of technical expertise and profound empathy to her role as a therapist. Initially beginning her career in computer science and information security, her journey took a transformative turn due to her lifelong dedication to yoga, particularly in the Iyengar tradition. This holistic practice instilled in her a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and sparked her interest in psychology.
As an Iyengar yoga teacher, Maryam’s caring and empathetic nature shines through in her therapeutic approach. She believes in creating a safe and nurturing space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Maryam adopts an integrative and client-led counselling approach, recognizing the importance of tailoring strategies to each individual’s unique needs. Fluent in both English and Persian, her empathetic presence, coupled with a diverse skill set, allows Maryam to connect with clients on a profound level, fostering a collaborative journey towards healing and self-discovery.
Maryam holds a master’s degree in psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and UPCA. Her passion for exploring the complexities of the human experience led her to pursue a foundation degree in Existential Psychotherapy, Counselling & Coaching. Currently on the path to obtaining her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy, Maryam is committed to continuous learning and professional development. Maryam is a trainee counsellor currently placed at The Awareness Centre’s counselling service in NHS Sutton.
