Michael Bascombe is an integrative counsellor working in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Tooting, London and online. He holds a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling and is a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP. Alongside his private practice, Michael has gained valuable clinical experience supporting adults within NHS Talking Therapies, providing shot-term counselling for clients experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges. He works with adults aged 18 and over, supporting them through anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, identity concerns and life transitions.

Michael’s integrative approach allows him to draw on a range of therapeutic models, including Person-Centred Therapy and Transactional Analysis, enabling him to tailor therapy to each client’s individual needs, experiences and goals. Michael believes that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is at the heat of meaningful change. He offers a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions and experiences at their own pace, feeling genuinely heard, accepted and understood. He recognises that seeking therapy can feel daunting and works collaboratively with each client to build trust, helping them develop greater self-awareness, resilience and confidence.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Michael adapts his way of working to suit each individual, drawing on different therapeutic perspectives where appropriate. His aim is to help clients feel empowered to make meaningful and lasting changes while fostering greater self-acceptance and emotional wellbeing. Before becoming a counsellor, Michael spent over a decade working across the NHS, Ministry of Justice and private sector in a variety of client-focused and multidisciplinary roles. These experiences have given him a strong understanding of the pressures people can face both personally and professionally, as well as the importance of compassion, collaboration and respecting each person’s unique circumstances. As a therapist of mixed Caribbean and English heritage, Michael is passionate about creating an inclusive and culturally responsive therapeutic space where people from all backgrounds feel welcome, respected and valued.
