Nicola Heathcote is a trainee psychotherapist and a registered student member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). She is currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy at The Awareness Centre and provides short-term online counselling to adults through the NHS Talking Therapies service in Lambeth. Nicola works integratively, drawing on different therapeutic perspectives and ways of working to offer an approach that is responsive to each client’s individual needs, experiences and goals. She is particularly interested in helping clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and explore patterns that may be affecting their emotional wellbeing and relationships.

Nicola believes that therapy is a collaborative process and sees herself as walking alongside her clients rather than leading them from the front. She offers a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where clients can pause, reflect and feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted. Her approach is grounded in the belief that each person is the expert in their own experience, and she works with clients to explore what is bringing them to therapy and identify achievable steps towards meaningful change. Nicola places particular importance on the relationship between therapist and client, seeing an authentic and trusting therapeutic relationship as a powerful foundation for growth. She aims to create a space where clients feel safe enough to explore difficult thoughts and feelings at their own pace, whilst also encouraging curiosity, self-reflection and greater self-awareness.

Before training as a psychotherapist, Nicola spent 17 years working in the advertising industry as a conceptual copywriter. Her experience of working in demanding and often fast-paced professional environments has given her a strong understanding of the pressures associated with work, including stress, expectations, performance and maintaining a sense of balance. She brings this understanding into her therapeutic work, particularly when supporting clients who are experiencing challenges connected to their working lives. Nicola has a particular interest in working with adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, depression and loss. She is committed to creating a supportive space in which clients can explore their experiences without judgement and begin to develop greater self-understanding, self-compassion and confidence in finding their own way forward.
