Sophie Vallance
Sophie Vallance is a trainee integrative counsellor at The Awareness Centre, and a member of the BACP. She works within The Awareness Centre’s low-cost counselling service in Tooting and is currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. Sophie works sensitively and relationally, helping you explore your inner thoughts and physical and emotional experiences at a pace that feels safe. Her approach is warm, attuned, and non-judgemental, helping to create a grounding and compassionate presence. She listens deeply and reflects collaboratively, creating a space where you can feel heard and understood. This can help strengthen your sense of inner safety and self-worth, enabling you to find a way forward that works for you.
Sophie takes an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on a range of techniques to suit each client. Her work is underpinned by person-centred values, which place you as the expert in your own life and support you in discovering your own authentic solutions. Gestalt techniques, together with Polyvagal and somatic awareness, can help clients explore and better regulate their immediate experience, increasing internal safety, clarity, and choice. Psychodynamic models can also help us understand the ways our past influences our present experience, reducing shame and making it easier to find new ways to meet our needs. This range of approaches enables Sophie to offer both short- and long-term support, addressing immediate challenges while also exploring deeper patterns to facilitate lasting change.
With a background in business and 15 years’ experience as a coach, Sophie understands how stress, relationship challenges, and life transitions can affect our health and wellbeing. She appreciates the importance of attachment needs and the way new situations may bring up questions around identity and belonging. She attunes well to people who are sensitive and thoughtful towards others but who may not know or prioritise their own needs or voice. Sophie can support those struggling with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, loss, challenging relationships, and life transitions. She has worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, and greatly appreciates the unique perspective each person brings.
