Alp Ulgen (he/him) is a senior trainee integrative arts psychotherapist and a trainee member of the UKCP. He specialises in treating depression, anxiety, complex trauma, and developmental trauma. Alp also has an interest in working with anger and medically unexplained chronic pain.

Alp works mostly face-to-face on an open-ended basis within The Awareness Centre. He also works with an LGBT+ community organisation that provides subsidised short-term counselling. Alp has a PG Certificate in Therapeutic Arts, a PG Certificate in Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Well-being: Multidisciplinary Practice, and a Certificate in Initiatic Art Therapy. He has completed the training element of his MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy and regularly completes CPDs and training courses to continue his professional growth.

Alp offers a safe, confidential, and compassionate space to provide Art-Led Psychotherapy, an expressive form of talking therapy that uses the arts to enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is not necessary to have any prior art-making experience since the arts are used only for communication and experimentation during the sessions. The arts can be instrumental in expressing emotions that may be challenging to articulate, improving non-verbal communication, encouraging self-expression and self-discovery, and providing a secure and non-invasive way to share and promote vulnerability in therapy.

Alp adapts his approach to each individual, as there is no one-size-fits-all solution. We have a complex system of relationships with others and the surrounding environment. Although we cannot change what has happened to us or control or prevent life’s challenges, we can learn how to navigate them and find balance. Alp can support you in discovering new ways of being to build strength, courage, and resilience to thrive.
