Gerard Wilson provides a non-judgemental and accepting environment for clients to explore, and believes in the therapeutic power of being allowed to speak freely of your concerns. He approaches the work in a collaborative way, working with the client to understand their world and what they hope to gain from the sessions, meeting them wherever they are in the process with compassion. Gerard’s orientation is psychodynamic, these theories explore how unconscious processes and past experiences can affect our thinking and behaviours in the present moment. He believes that the greater self-awareness and understanding the therapy brings can lead to greater self-esteem and improved relationships with others.

Gerard comes from a background in the creative industries, having run a fashion business for twenty years, with additional experience in teaching. This has given him experience of work place and study related stress. He has volunteered at Samaritans, and at Switchboard, a helpline for the LGBT+ community, working with diverse service users from all backgrounds on a wide range of issues. He has experience with depression and anxiety, as well as special interest in areas relating to identity, sexuality, gender and addition.

Currently Gerard is working towards an MA in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy at Goldsmiths College, University of London, having previously completed a post graduate certificate in humanistic and psychodynamic counselling at the same institution. He is a student member of the BACP and works at The Awareness Centre’s NHS Wandsworth Talking Therapy Services.
