Marina Abbate
Marina Abbate is a BACP registered Gestalt counsellor, and is originally from Rome. She works in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham.
Marina’s approach is Gestalt therapy, trauma informed and diversity empowering. She facilitates the safe emergency of the sources of her clients’ difficulties, providing a space for exploration and experimentation. By raising awareness of ‘what is’, she invites her clients to try new ways of moving around their contexts. Her focus is on the present moment, informed by past experiences and the expectations for the future. She encourages her clients to take responsibility for their lives, becoming agent of their change. She believes that each of us is unique and in relation, and through relating and connecting we can heal.
Marina has lived in different countries and worked in a variety of fields. This array of experiences has sharpened her understanding of diversity and her interest in themes of identity and belonging. Her attention is at the person in their context and her work is relationally focused, which aims to widen the therapeutic perspective. Marina has experience of delivering counselling in a variety of counselling services, including the NHS, where she is currently volunteering.
Marina is a wonderful and caring therapist. She always listens attentively, and has given me so many valuable and encouraging insights to help me let go, develop and feel empowered. She has helped me to connect more with my feelings and express them, as well as make sense of my experiences and how they relate to the present.
